This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your data when you use theuniversedomain.com. It is written to be read, not to be skipped.
Who is responsible
THE UNIVERSE DOMAIN — contact: sistema@theuniversedomain.com
Behind that name there is no company and no staff: the author of CTHULHU MANDATORY, and an address that is read.
The project keeps a public count of the people who register, and nothing else. No advertising network is attached to it, and nothing on this site is for sale.
What is collected, and only this
- Your email address. Required to cast a vote. It is the whole point: one address, one vote.
- An alias, if you choose to give one. A real name is never requested. Anything you type is what will be printed on your credential.
- A country, if you choose to give one. Free text. It is printed on the credential and nothing else is done with it.
- Your browser's time zone — for example Europe/Madrid. This is used to place a dot on the map. Your IP address is not used for this, and the dot is deliberately scattered so it points at a country, never at you.
- The date you registered, and whether your credential has been issued.
No name, no address, no phone number, no payment details. Nothing is asked for that the archive does not need.
Your IP address is not recorded — not with your entry, and not in the visit log. To stop floods of sign-ups and repeated votes, a fingerprint derived from it (never the address itself) is kept for 48 hours, and then deleted.
Why
- To count your vote and show it on the map.
- To send your credential to the address that voted, whenever it is asked for.
- To write to you, if — and only if — you confirmed your address by clicking the link in the first email.
The legal basis is your consent. You give it by ticking the box on the vote form — the one that links to this page. That box is never ticked for you. If it is not ticked, nothing is sent and nothing is recorded.
When you tick it, the archive records the date and the version of this page you accepted. The date is printed on your own credential. You can withdraw your consent at any time, and doing so costs one click.
The 48-hour fingerprint is the only exception to consent: it exists to keep the count honest, and that legitimate interest is its basis.
Cookies: there are none
This site sets no cookies. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no tracker of any kind. Nobody is followed around the internet from here.
Your browser stores a couple of small values locally — your member number, so the site recognises you on your next visit. They stay on your machine, are never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes them.
The typefaces are served from this same server. Nothing on these pages is loaded from anyone else.
Who else sees your data
- The server, hosted with Arsys, in Spain.
- The outgoing mail provider, to deliver the messages you asked for.
That is the entire list. Your data is never sold, rented, traded or handed to advertisers. There is nobody to hand it to.
How long it is kept
For as long as the project is running, and no longer. If the project ends, the records go with it.
You do not have to wait for that: ask at any time and your entry is erased. One click unsubscribes you; one message removes you entirely.
Your rights, and how to use them
- Unsubscribe — every email carries a one-click link at the bottom. No questions, no form, no "are you sure".
- Deletion — reply REMOVE to any message, or write to sistema@theuniversedomain.com. Your entry is erased.
- Access, correction, objection, portability — same address. You will get an answer within one month.
Write first: almost anything is solved with one message, and it will be answered. If you are in the European Union you also have the right to raise the matter with the data protection authority of your country. In Spain that is the AEPD.
Minors
This site is not aimed at children. You must be 16 or older to register: ticking the box on the vote form confirms it. If you are under 16, do not register.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Substantial changes will be announced in the monthly message.
> You were told once. Once was sufficient.
